Liberte: Music of Resistance and Revolution
Joshua Habermann, Music Director and Conductor
Program Sponsors: Stephen and Jane Hochberg
Music Director Joshua Habermann created and conducts Liberté: Music of Resistance and Revolution. The program derives its name from the eighth movement of Poulenc's exacting a cappella work Figure Humaine composed during the Nazi occupation of France. It also features choral music from the Terezin concentration camp, and works sung during the "Singing Revolution" (1987-1991) that forced the expulsion of the Soviets from Estonia. Baltic composers Cyrillus Kreek, Veljo Tormis and Arvo Pärt will be heard on this program celebrating freedom and the indomitable nature of the human spirit.
Pre-concert Lecturer: Steven Ovitsky, Executive Director, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. (Free Pre-Concert Talk registration at
