Created by the visionary Director Peter Sellars, 21 professional choral singers from the renowned LA Master Chorale give a sweeping staged performance of Orlando di Lasso’s masterpiece Lagrime di San Pietro (Tears of St. Peter).
The 75-minute a cappella Renaissance work includes 20 sacred madrigals and the concluding motet which gives title to the piece. In the production, LA Master Chorale states that “Sellars translates Lagrime through a contemporary lens, suggesting a powerful allegory that by taking responsibility and facing our past head-on, we can forge a more resolved and fulfilling future.” Join fellow Santa Fe Desert Chorale patrons at the May 31st performance that features Chorale Tenor John Buffett. Marc Swed of the LA Times reviewed the premiere writing, “Lagrime is a major accomplishment for the Master Chorale, which sang and acted brilliantly. It is also a major accomplishment for music history.”
Lagrime di San Pietro is being performed in prestigious venues from London, Paris, and Melbourne to leading performing arts series throughout the United States – don’t miss this once in a lifetime appearance in Santa Fe!
