Justice Program
Dr. André J. Thomas, Guest Conductor
NaGuanda Nobles, Soprano Soloist
Brandon Boyd, Composer and Piano
In 1965, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said "the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." Spirituals, an important form of song literature, have given voice to the oppressed throughout the sweep of American history. Honored by The African Diaspora Sacred Music Program as a "Living Legend," Dr. André J. Thomas has curated a program of gospel music and spirituals drawing from his recent book, Way Over in Beulah Lan': Understanding and Performing the Negro Spiritual. Conducted by Dr. Thomas, the Justice program features a world premiere by pianist and composer Brandon Boyd and an appearance by award-winning soprano NaGuanda Nobles as vocal soloist.
Pre-concert Lecturer: Brandon Boyd, Composer and Pianist; PhD Candidate, Florida State University where he studies with Dr. André J. Thomas. (Free registration at
