Music from a Secret Chapel
Joshua Habermann, Music Director and Leader
Living and composing as a Catholic in Protestant England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, William Byrd (1543 - 1623) practiced his religion clandestinely. The intimate Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel adjoining the cloistered Carmelite Monastery provides the perfect atmosphere for Music from a Secret Chapel; a vocal chamber program featuring nine of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale's early music specialists. They will perform works of Byrd and Sistine Chapel composers including Giovanni Palestrina's Surge Illuminare Jerusalem.
Pre-concert Lecturer: Dr. Harris Ipock, Resident Conductor, Harvard Glee Club; Vocalist, Santa Fe Desert Chorale. (Free Pre-Concert Talk registration at
www.desertchorale.tix.com.)
Note: The Pre-Concert Talk on July 19th will be included in the Opening Night Dinner. There will be no Pre-Concert Talk on July 29th due to the film screening of "Singing Revolution" taking place at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe.
